My Approach to Family Photo Sessions

I truly love working with families and capturing meaningful moments that reflect your life right now. Whether it’s just the two of you and your puppy, a baby announcement, maternity photos, a micro family session, or a full extended family gathering, I’m passionate about celebrating every stage of life exactly as it is.

Your family doesn’t need to look or act a certain way to be “photo-ready.” You deserve to be celebrated and remembered in your current season—messy, joyful, loud, quiet, and everything in between.

I’m very patient and genuinely enjoy working with kids of all ages. If you’re worried your kids are “wild,” I promise—you’re not alone, and it’s never a problem. I create a relaxed, low-pressure environment where kids can be themselves. I’ll guide you through natural prompts and gentle direction to capture those timeless, picturesque images and the candid, real moments that make your family yours.

My goal is for your session to feel more like time spent together than a formal photo shoot—resulting in images that feel authentic, joyful, and full of life.

Family photo session pricing varies based on session length and whether you choose an Evening Session or a Signature Sunset Session.

Signature Sunset Sessions are timed specifically around peak golden hour lighting for the soft coastal sunset tones featured throughout my portfolio. Evening Sessions take place earlier in the evening while still offering beautiful natural coastal light.

I require a $100 retainer for each session. All sessions include the full edited gallery with full-resolution downloads, printing rights, and no capped image counts or additional per-photo download fees.

Bald Head Island sessions are available for 30, 45, and 60 minute sessions only. A $70 Bald Head Island coverage fee applies to all BHI sessions to account for ferry coordination, parking, and additional travel time.

Photos are delivered through an online gallery where you can download the web-sized photos for you to share with family and on social media. Full-resolution photos can be professionally printed through the online gallery and are delivered right to your door!

Sessions include all of the edited photos from the entire length of the session delivered through an online downloadable gallery where you can download the digital photos sized for digital sharing on the web and order high-resolution prints directly through the gallery. A $100 deposit is required to secure your date and time for the photo session.

Your gallery makes it easy to download, share, and order professional-quality prints directly online. Every image is professionally edited and delivered in both color and black and white for even more variety throughout your gallery.

My normal turn around time on family photos is 10 to 21 days. During peak summer months, this time may be slightly longer but I will be upfront with you about turn around times at the time of your session.

For one-hour shoots, you can expect anywhere from 150-300 photos.

For 30-minute sessions, you can expect anywhere from 75-150 photos.

For 15-minute mini sessions, you can expect anywhere from 30-100 photos.

These numbers are an average of the number of photos delivered in previous sessions. All sessions depend on your group and how cooperative each individual is throughout the shoot.

Absolutely! No matter your group’s size, I always start with large group photos first and then allow you to dictate the various combinations you would like captured. It is your session so I work to capture every combination you have envisioned.

Pricing for 15, 30 and 45 minute sessions are set for groups of up to 10 people. Each additional person is $15. 60 minute sessions do not have a cap on the number of people. Sessions around holidays are subject to increased prices.

The best lighting for beach family photos is typically during the evening hours when the light is softer, warmer, and more flattering along the coast.

Signature Sunset Sessions are scheduled closest to sunset and are timed specifically around peak golden hour lighting for the soft coastal sunset tones featured throughout my portfolio. Evening Sessions take place earlier in the evening while still offering beautiful natural light and a relaxed coastal feel.

When planning your session, we’ll determine the ideal timing based on whether you choose a Signature Sunset Session or an Evening Session, along with the sunset time during your vacation dates since sunset timing changes throughout the year.

Once your session is booked, I’ll help guide the best start time based on lighting, location, session length, and the overall look you’re hoping to capture.

In the event of inclement weather, I will work to reschedule the photoshoot for a different time that works for both parties. If a make-up date cannot be accommodated, you will be refunded your deposit.

If you cancel your session less than one week out from the scheduled session date your deposit will not be refunded. This is to cover time slots on my end since I may not be able to refill the previously booked time slot.

Paw sure! I love when families include their four-legged friends in the shoot.

It is important to note that you are still required to look after your pet. I will be happy to hold them on a leash while we take some of the photos but it works best to only include them in a few photos before taking them back to the house or car.

Bald Head Island family sessions are some of my favorite sessions to photograph. Due to ferry coordination, parking, and additional travel logistics, a $70 Bald Head Island coverage fee applies to all BHI sessions.

The process is simple — once your session is booked, I coordinate ferry timing and help guide location and timing recommendations based on where you are staying on the island and the type of scenery you’re hoping to capture.

Signature Sunset Sessions on Bald Head Island are especially limited during peak summer weeks and tend to book quickly.
