Maternity Session on Bald Head Island
Bald Head Island, NC
Some sessions come full circle — and this one was especially meaningful.
I first met this couple years ago when their family was visiting Bald Head Island. It was one of the very first photography sessions I ever shot on Bald Head, back when I was just beginning to build my coastal portfolio. Fast forward a few years, and I was honored when they reached out again — this time to celebrate an exciting new chapter: their growing family.
They were expecting and planning a babymoon getaway on Bald Head Island — a quiet escape before the baby arrived — and wanted to document the moment while soaking in the island they already loved. When they reached out to set up a maternity session, I knew it would be something special. It absolutely did not disappoint.
A Windy (But Worth It) Bald Head Island Babymoon Maternity Session
We met at the Bald Head Island ferry, hopped into a golf cart, and headed toward their rental home along South Beach. Bald Head Island is known for its natural beauty, wide beaches, and peaceful pace — the perfect backdrop for a babymoon. Of course, if you’ve spent time here, you know the wind can be part of the experience.
Rather than fight it, we embraced it.
The ocean breeze added movement, personality, and that unmistakable Bald Head Island coastal feel. Flowing fabrics, natural light, and a relaxed pace made this maternity session feel effortless and authentic — exactly how a baby moon session should feel.
Including Their Dog & Keeping Things Natural
One of my favorite parts of this session was incorporating their dog into the photos. Pets are family, and including them in a maternity or family photography session often leads to the most genuine moments.
We spent time walking along the shoreline, pausing for quiet moments together, and letting the session unfold naturally. Babymoon sessions are about slowing down, enjoying the moment, and capturing connection — and this one checked every box.
